This turn of the century farmhouse is handmade in the traditional country style. Starting out as a two-story, most farmhouses were added-on to at least once, sometimes two or more times as their families grew, giving each a unique look. This has an addition on the back of the house.

This birdhouse features two nesting boxes. It also has several safety and comfort features that many decorative birdhouses don't feature such as:

  • 3/4" solid pine construction recommended for insulation from both heat and cold.
  • Thick bird openings and no perches outside of bird holes, which protects small songbirds from larger predators.
  • Ventilation along eaves and roofing perlins to keep birds from suffocating heat.
  • Removable roof for easy clean-out in between bird families.

Ben hand carved the cabin's foundation and chimney from Southern yellow pine, transforming it to the look of natural stone with intricate hand-painting. The siding is crafted of hickory planks, complete with the small holes in the wood from wood-boring insects that hickory is known for. This birdhouse is not stained. It has a hand-rubbed oil finish which truly brings out the beauty of the hickory. The dimensions are 20" x 22" x 20" high.

The grass is made from wood shavings and sawdust, glued, painted and finished with polyurethane for a long-lasting "yard".

The window and door frames and the porch posts and deck are made of red oak, painted white, and the paint sanded and weathered for that look we have all come to recognize on farmhouses all over the country.

The roof on this house is rusty metal with a truly beautiful authentic patina. The metal comes from the roof of an old outbuilding here at Covenant Farm that Ben put a new roof on.The roofing he used dates back well over 50 years.

The porch features Victorian-era posts like those found on our own 1916 farmhouse here at Covenant Farm.
