This house is handmade in the classic Federal style of many early American homes. It features the tradition rectangular Federal design with two nesting boxes. This birdhouse has several safety and comfort features that many decorative birdhouses don't feature such as:

  • 3/4" solid pine construction recommended for insulation from both heat and cold.
  • Thick bird openings and no perches outside of bird holes, which protects small songbirds from larger predators.
  • Ventilation along eaves and roofing perlins to keep birds from suffocating heat.
  • Removable roof for easy clean-out in between bird families.

A true craftsman and artisan, Ben hand carved the cabin's foundation and chimney and rear atrium from Southern yellow pine, transforming it to the look of natural stone with intricate hand-painting. This birdhouse is not stained. It has a hand-rubbed oil finish which brings out the natural colors of the wood. The windows, door, doorway and porch are crafted of red oak, the siding is made of individual planks of red oak as well. The dimensions are 20" x 22" x 20" high.

This Birdhouse also features the excellent details that make it one-of-a-kind. Notice the handmade bench, axe and woodpile, mailbox, hanging plant and porch plants.
All these details are handcrafted.

The roof of the house is authentic metal roofing that Ben salvaged from one of the outbuildings that he repaired here at Covenant Farm. The metal is hand-crimped to obtain the original roof pattern. This gives the house the authentic look and feel of many country homes down here in the south.
