This Birdhouse is framed in Southern Yellow Pine. The windows, doors, trim are all red oak. Ben created the look of granite with a textured paint, and hand-painted the corner-blocks

The bushes are real moss, sprayed with polyurethane. They hide a small light at each corner of the house, which is built into a wooden holder. The bird hole is on the side of the house above the middle window. The bird nest is a small box on that side of the house, separated from the lights. The roof is bolted on from the top and easily removed for cleaning.

The Greek Revival Style goes back to the 18th century in America. It was popular in stately homes in both the North and South. Many of the buildings in Washington, DC are built in this style, and many churches, libraries and courthouses were built in this style. The homes of many of the Founding Fathers were built in Greek Revival style, such as Washington (Mount Vernon), Jefferson (Monticello), Madison (Montpelier) and others. It's distinctive features include large stone, pillars, wide-angle rooflines and tall windows.

Notice the detail on this house (make sure you click on the photos to see the enlargements). Ben has put in the scrollwork at the top of the pillars, and routed the molding for the front of the roofline for an authentic Greek Revival look. He has hand-etched and hand-pained the corner-stones of the building as well. Even the detail of the porch railings and supports are authentic to the style.

The Magic Begins When the Sun Goes Down!

Ben painted the inside of this house with a gold paint. During the day, they look like normal windows. But when the lights come on, you get a warm amber glow from these lights. This house also has outside "spotlights" to accent the exterior at night.

This house will make a truly unique centerpiece for your garden or your front porch. It is quite large, the base measures 27" x 22" and it stands 14" high at the chimney.

This will make a unique gift, or as an excellent piece of garden decor, or even a lamp post at the end of your walkway!
